Quiesce - Artist’s Statement

My work of the past year has been about capturing the moment. It’s about taking time away from self to observe and savour the present. I paint both landscape and still life and I strive to recreate their essence with the sumptuous qualities of oil paint. I wanted to display both beauty and vigour with conviction, sometimes using a palette knife, occasionally a brush and often with my hands.  The past winter seemed long to me and with the arrival of spring and time spent in the country near Goulburn, I had a chance to produce work reflecting the vitality of my surroundings.  Art produced by the Impressionists has provided a methodology for me to develop for my own ends to capture the reality of the moment. The aim of these paintings is to share my experience and hopefully impart my enthusiasm for our living environment.
