Artist's Statement | Duncan Stothart

Duncan Stothart has created a collection of lyrical expressions of our vast landscape. He proposes an alternative way of seeing the landscape by treating the major features and minute details of these scenes with the same reverence. The ambiguous spatial references create a energy that seems to pulsate from the foreground to the high horizon line glaring with light.
The open spaces are enlivened with suggestions of activity through the use of line, marks of paint and other mediums. Duncan’s handling of both oils & watercolours uses the technique of glazing, using almost transparent layers of vibrant colours to create these landscapes shimmering with the heat of our land.
