Sharing My View
“With my roots in the land I find an anchor for my spirit. ”
Denise Campbell – Diaries
On a recent field trip to Central and North Western Australia I chose the use of small planes and aerial perspective to again make sense of the vast scale and never-ending variability of the desert land beneath me.
From this viewpoint the evidence of the weathering forces of the elements is apparent and leave in their wake a repetition of pattern and shape that is both visually exciting and emotionally overwhelming. The soft delicacy of the gentle winter palette, with hues of lemon, pink, salmon and mauve, belies the harsh reality of existence within this landscape.
Looking down there is an abstraction to the point of view. The random, yet bounteous spinifex, winding stream lines and dry, untamed bush are reminiscent of the shape, colour and repetition of abstract mosaics, with a beauty and reality all of their own.
“Sharing My View” offers in a visual language, my interpretation of the sense of our land’s timelessness, of formation and re-formation and of a greater universal patterning of life experienced by us all: – life cycles, daily habits and rituals, seasons and wisdoms. The resultant works, in their making, have served to anchor my spirit and I hope that in turn, in their viewing , will lift yours.
